THE BSNE catcher was designed by Dr. Bill Fryrear (USDA - Big Spring, TX).  BSNE stands for Big Spring Number Eight. The wedge shape of this catcher causes a partial vacuum at the back end where a fine screen allows a low pressure to accumulate inside the catcher. This negative pressure is adjusted by the size of the rear opening to cause the air flow at the catcher opening to enter with virtually no turbulence. The rear vane points the opening into the wind.

This catcher is made of galvanized steel and can be stacked for multiple height measurements.

There are many reasons a catcher is a necessary piece of equipment.  Catchers provide a total mass reference for an erosion event.  Please review the DPC document for details.
